Papaya was chosen to launch Sydney’s newest cocktail bar, Bar 1880 nestled in the heart of Circular Quay. The primary objectives were to create widespread awareness about Bar 1880, generate buzz within the local and greater Sydney community and position the bar as a must-visit venue for those seeking a distinctive cocktail experience. A comprehensive PR and social media marketing strategy was executed to secure high quality media coverage popular with both local residents in the CBD and those venturing into the city.


Papaya secured over 20 pieces of coverage with a media circulation of 18.3million from major publications such as The Sydney Morning Herald, Urban List, Broadsheet, Concrete Playground, and TimeOut.


To generate mass awareness about the new venue, Papaya developed a social media strategy that focussed on bringing the venue to life and creating a destination.

How we got there

Papaya created a strategic PR campaign and tailored pitching program to key online trend media outlets. The focus was on securing interviews and media stories with the top online What’s On media like Good Food, Broadsheet, TimeOut, Urban List, Concrete Playground, Eat Drink Play. We took a creative approach, leveraging the historical significance of Bar 1880 as our hook.


Throughout the campaign we invited key media to try their sophisticated cocktail offering and experience the atmosphere of Bar 1880, the home of the notorious Bulletin Magazine, as the place to drink cocktails.


To complement the PR efforts, we developed a comprehensive social media program across both Facebook and Instagram which would enable us to engage with both the local CBD demographic and individuals traveling into the city with interests in food, drink and going out.


The dynamic and exciting content showcased the venue’s unique features and was supported by a highly strategic social media advertising plan. This plan targeted thousands of potential customers, encouraging them to make bookings directly through their website.
