We’re back from our Champagne diet and ready to deliver our golden insights into the social media, PR and marketing world.
Before we start, let’s take a walk down memory lane. We saw tremendous and mind-boggling things in the past decade. Myspace was born (and died), Facebook became a thing, Instagram became the ‘cool brother’ and started the influencer generation.
If you’re curious to know what worked and didn’t work in the past, you can read our past social media blogs.
Now, what does 2020 have in store for us? Us, Papaya warriors, are tapping into our crystal ball and sharing our social media marketing ~predictions~ for 2020.
In 2019, Instagram and Facebook experimented with hiding likes. Despite the worldwide mixed response, we’ve officially said good-bye to likes. This was a game changer for social media business pages and influencers.

How can your brand get onto this wagon? Research influencers with a tight and targeted following – Instagram geolocations are your friend!
Last year, Instagram announced instant shopping on Instagram. Now – what’s next?! We expect big things for retail marketing and how brands can leverage social media to drive sales. Perhaps customers will swap search engines for social media!
We suggest brands and micro businesses to polish up on their social media presence and have all their automated chatbots up-to-scratch for perfect customer service. Quirky, short form video is also trending, which can quickly grab the attention of your customer.
Who DOESN’T love filters? From Instagram’s “what Aussie snack are you” to Snapchat’s iconic dog lens. We’re sensing that AR will become stronger than ever this year.
How can brands leverage this? E-commerce brands are using AR to help customers by trying on clothes virtually and reverse image search products. We totally see a spike this year for brands leveraging AR to make the e-commerce experience more convenient!
Now, here is a hot topic: legal regulation. We’ve seen a lot of heat and controversy (cough, cough, Cambridge Analytica) about Facebook not being properly regulated by the government. We believe there will be more political action in the big country (U.S) fighting for more regulation on social media. Stay tuned for this one!
