Lately, we’ve been asked about how Snapchat can help restaurants, pubs, and food brands. We’ve increasingly been creating and implementing Snapchat Geofilters for our clients.
So what’s a Geofilter?
Essentially it’s a picture that sits over a photo in a specific location for a specific timeframe. It allows restaurants, pubs, and clubs to brand their patrons photos while they are shared with friends and family via Snapchat.
Do you need to have a Snapchat account?
No – you don’t need to as the filter brands other people’s photos.
How much does it cost?
The tricky bit is you don’t really know until it’s been submitted to Snapchat but the cost depends on the length of time the Snapchat filter is live for and the geographic area you want it in. The larger and longer, the more $ required. In our experience, it’s been reasonably cost effective starting from US$18 for a Sydney pub for just over 24 hours.
When should I use one?
It’s best to use Snapchat filters in accordance with an event or promotion that has a fixed time period. The idea is to create buzz or hype surrounding a specific occasion which will get you the best bang for your buck if you are a restaurant, hotel or bar.
Can I pick where my filter will show in the queue?
No, SnapChat will select this for you automatically and it is likely to be behind the temperature and ‘community filters’ ie. “Sydney” or “Melbourne”
What reach can I expect?
There isn’t a huge amount of data that SnapChat will show you on Geofilters however our clients have experienced a reach of up to 1,000 over a 24-hour timeframe and would expect this to grow as we do this more frequently.
There are 4 million 18-25 year-olds on Snapchat in Australia so if this is your target market it’s seriously worth considering.
Top tip for SnapChat filters
Promote your filter in venue so people know to look for it. You are going to the time, the effort and the investment, so be sure to make the most of it.
