From time machine ageing filters going viral to influencers talking about hidden likes (seriously, what DOES this mean, Instagram?!) We’re ready to give you the load on social media buzz for August and what to expect for September.
Let’s get down to the good stuff and talk about Instagram hiding its likes. This daring update rustled some feathers and was rolled out in Australia amongst a handful of other countries. The question on everyone’s lips is, ‘how will this effect engagement on business pages?’ Well, engagement has dropped but we’ll get to that in a little more detail in our next update.
This change will most likely see brands shift focus to creating more creative content and instead of evaluating success solely on ‘Likes’ per post, now success will be measured on other engagement metrics including comments, saved posts and shares. Is it a bad thing? Well, we don’t think so. As a social media marketing and public relations agency, the wheel will keep on spinning and hopefully the days of fake likes on posts have passed.

Instagram is finally catching up to look more like the Facebook algorithm by decreasing the amount of organic reach your posts get. Since early May there has been an ever increasing decline in overall engagement on influencer and brand content, an 18% decrease to be exact according to the study by Instagram Engagement Decrease Case Study.
Social media marketers will now have to focus on more detailed targeted ad campaigns, impactful social media content and possibly spend a little more budget to get wins for their clients. Shouldn’t be too hard, as that’s how we roll.
This new update is music to our ears! Do we need third party social media scheduling tools anymore? That’s what we’re asking ourselves as a social media marketing agency. Scheduling social media content for all our different clients can be frustrating, as each third-party social media tool has its own limitations and sometimes costs quite a bit of $$.
We might not have to use social media third party tools anymore! Instagram is rolling out a new feature, Creator Studio and you will be able to schedule all your Instagram content through this new feature. It will look and feel like how we currently schedule through
Facebook. Look out for this new feature which will hopefully reach us soon, we’re going to be some very happy grammars.

More creative social media content options for social media marketers creating social content! If you have an Android smartphone then you will have this very cool feature of being able to post 3D photos to your feed.
You can now post 3D photos to stories, messenger and desktop now. As a social media marketing agency, we are always looking for creative and unique ways to grab people’s attention, hopefully it will be rolled out on Apple devices soon.

Say good riddance to Facebooks group chat feature! If you are part of any Facebook community groups, you can no longer hold a group chat through messenger. You will have to communicate the good old fashion way by posting on the group feed. Why has Facebook removed this feature? The biggest reason is the increase of spammers and the increase of chat blasting. However, Facebook will be launching a new way to communicate through groups, but nothing has been released yet, stay tuned.
